2012 Eclipse!
On May 20th, 2012, there will be what is known as an
Annular Solar Eclipse.
The eclipse will begin at roughly 4:15PM, with the center of totality passing over my campsite# at around 5:30PM, and the last of the eclipse
ending after sunset. This promises to be a truly awe-inspiring event, and I'll be making a huge event of it, camping there overnight on the
19th. Luckily, this is on a weekend!
#I've setup a page on Google Maps, to make it easier to locate the campsite. if you have any trouble with the link, Contact me, and let me know.
Using a trio of programs at my disposal, I've created an image of what the eclipse should look like from the location of my campsite.
(I used Google Earth to generate the terrain, an astronomy application called Celestia for the sky, and Paint Shop Pro to stitch the images together.)
This promises to be an absolutely awesome event, so if you want to join me, feel free to come along! (even if we've never met! Come join the adventure with me!)
Some things you'll want to bring:
- Cold Beverages (Let's not get TOO crazy with the booze, though)
- Munchies
- Trash bags*
- Chairs or other things to sit on
- Cameras (yes, plural. And of different types, if possible (Film type, Digital, movie, web, etc.)
- Sunscreen
*Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footsteps. Let's all be good stewards of the land, shall we?
